Castel di Tora sits on a rocky spur above Lake Turano, in the province of Rieti. Its castle, built by Benedictine monks in the 11th century, once guarded the village through the Middle Ages. It stands in ruins now, though the walls and towers are still there, holding the shape of what it was.
