Lighthouse

This is Ramsgate's Lighthouse. The Cinque Ports were a medieval confederation of coastal towns in Kent and Sussex, originally five: Hastings, New Romney, Hythe, Dover, and Sandwich. They were granted special privileges by the Crown in return for providing ships and men for defense and trade. Alongside the main five were "limb ports" (smaller towns tied to them).

Ramsgate was formally attached as a limb of Sandwich. So while Ramsgate isn't one of the original five Cinque Ports, it carried Cinque Ports status through Sandwich.
